How to grow grass along 800'driveway? It is hard dirt/mud, full sun. Any seeds planted runs off in heavy rain.

have you tried to till up the dirt first? that might make it easier for the seeds to root. or how about covering the seeds with hay. I really dont know if either will help, but just offering sugestions

Have you tried sod or you can plug plant it. Planting sod is quicker and easier but cost more than plugging, you buy enough sod to cover the complete area lay it down keep it watered and problem solved. Plug planting is cheaper but harder you buy some sod (not sure how much you will need) cut it into small pieces, 2"X 2" or larger, you decide, dig holes, place the pieces in the different holes and keep them watered.
Reply:after planting the seed try covering them with burlap the burlap will hold the seed in place, keep the birds from eating the seeds, hold the moisture in better, keep the hot sun from burning it up and will rot away into the ground within a short period of time.the grass will grow up through the burlap, do not remove the burlap. you may want to start the seed and burlap on the outer edge and work your way into the driveway. this will keep future seeding from washing away.... the new grass will help hold the newer seeding. buy burlap sacks at a feed store and wash them first to take the starch out of them so they'll rot faster.
