What type of popular plants like full day sun. And what popular plants like mostly shade.?

I want an assortment that is colourful and pretty. I just bought a house and have no idea what to do in the spring.

What type of popular plants like full day sun. And what popular plants like mostly shade.?
Shade= hostas, impatients, ferns (keep moist) colius.

Sunny= depending on where you live, deep south even the most hardy can have problems, the best thing to do is go to your local nursery and they will be happy to help you pick out what is best for your area. Good luck.

Full Sun ... "Day Lillies, Lillies of the Nile
Reply:It is nice to have a mix of annuals (only live for one year) and perennials (come back year after year), to lessen the expense and work involved.

The most popular annual that likes shade is impatiens. Lots of plants like sun -- some of the popular annuals are geraniums, petunias, zinnias (one my personal favorites), morning glories (a flowering vine), black-eyed susan vine (also a flowering vine), sweet peas (also a flowering vine -- sometimes can be found in a perennial version) and veggies (a mix of tomatoes, herbs, etc. looks nice in with flowers, in my opinion).

Popular perennials that like sun include irises, foxglove, day lilies, canna lilies, holly hocks, clematis (a flowering vine), black eyed susans, mums (there are annual and perennial varieties - read the tag), dianthus (there are annual and perennial varieties - read the tag), and coneflower (what they make echinacea from). Perennials that like shade include bell flower, lily of the valley, and hostas (some flower, some don't -- read the tag). Gladiolus and dahlias are a great flowers that like the sun, but you need to dig the roots up every year and store them indoors during the winter (same for canna lilies).

Have fun!

Reply:Do you want annuals or perennials? Also, your hardiness zone will play a factor in the decision. Daylilies do well in full sun and come in many colors. Hollyhocks also do well but might need help staying upright.
