How do you care for a ficus plant that is losing leaves. Does it need a lot of sun?

Some ficus like more sun and some like less. Whatever you do try it out slowly. Ficus always lose leaves and are ,sometimes, a big mess. Any change and the ficus will drop leaves. Move it to a new place and it will drop leaves. Ficus like to be a bit on the dry side between waterings and no standing water in the bottom of the pot or saucer......or, of course, they will also drop leaves. This is all I know about them from personal experience. Hope it helps.

My ficus is in full afternoon sun and is growing like crazy... It gets water about twice a week and I keep it trimmed like a sphere. It is in a pot and I have planted ivy at the base. We are in the hot Florida sun and my plant is beautiful. I do give it miracle grow about 1 time a month.

Filtered sun. Under an overhang/eave, or, under another (taller) plant.

Ficus plants (especially F. benjamina) really hate change of any sort; whether it is a change in water, light exposure, transplanting... fussy little plants, but well worth the time and trouble if you hit on the correct location, moisture needs...

Probably unlikely, but you might want to check for scale on the bark. Sometimes, if the leaves begin dropping for no real reason (no change in conditions), the plant might have scale.

Good luck.
