Which tree or bush is good to plant by the window where west side house to cut the heat from afternoon sun?

One that grows fast. Also, don't forget the house wall also heats up and transfers that heat through the wall to the inside.

red tip photonia does-- especially with more than usual water.

crepe myrtle does-- but don't buy a dwarf type. water is important, also.

You don't state your planting zone-- that would help.

These two do well in zone 7 which is Oklahoma and generally across that part of the States.

Don't forget about vines. The do require something to climb on-- but that can be simple or sturdy or what ever needed with the vine chosen. In the summer you want that west side sunshaded-- but in the winter you might want that sun to help heat your place.

Good luck

A Privat Hedge will grow quickly and lose it's leaves in the winter (if you have winter)

Reply:Bayberry, hibiscus, bougainvilla (thorny, not frost tolerant)

Lantana, which self seeds.

Check with a local nursery for other choices.
