Water can flow between cells (apoplastically) or through cells (sympastically from the soil to the endodermis. At the endosermis, water is forced to pass through the symplasm due to the Casparian strip. Water then eneters the tracheids and vessels, where it enters the intercellular air spaces of the mesophyll cells, and leaves the leaf in the form of vapor through stomata.
