Preferably flowering, but doesn't have to be. I'd like a fast grower. I love morning glories, but they say mostly sun. ..I want to plant these around the columns of my porch which has an overhang, hence a mainly shade plant is needed. gets about 1-2 hrs of sun in that area in the am. I don't really have a green thumb so I'd like something hearty. I'd LOVE something that just takes over and climbs EVERYWHERE!!! would like it to be so dense it basically makes an enclosed room out of my porch!! I like the "WILD" LOOK.
Thanks in advance!!!
I need a good climbing plant for mostly shade/some sun. HELP!!!?
A mandevilla! They are gorgeous, they are like a vine, get very full, and have beautiful flowers on them. I think it would be perfect for what you are looking for. Hope this helps and you get one and that you enjoy it. I think you will!
Reply:Trumpet vine is good, they say if you can't grow trumpet vine you need to quit gardening. It will get wild if you let it. Brings humming birds.
Reply:you know climbing roses do well in shade and if you just want green plant some sweet potatoes and let it clime it will fill up the area fast with little light and you could put pots on the tress to add color
Reply:Well... There is:
1) Clematis which produces very nice and sturdy flowers...
2) Passion flower that also has very beautiful flowers and produces edible fruits...
3) Hedera (English ivy) that has reliable foliage and its evergreen... and grows well under shade...
4) and finally Wisteria... Nice and fast growing... Fills everywhere with pinnate foliage and you get an awesome display in early spring... LOTS of flower spikes with a heavenly scent... I hope these work... I grow these mainly because they are pest-free...
Reply:Your location or where you live could tell more-your growing zone sometimes limits your choice-you mention morning glories, an annual that sets seeds for the following year:mine have only an hour or so sunlight on the west side-but there are many climbing roses, clematis,Boston and English ivies, Virginia creeper, climbing hydrangea, bittersweet, passionflower, wisteria, trumpet vine and Black-eyed Susan vines. You could even grow fruit, raspberries, kiwi,or grape vines. Your local nursery can fix you right up with something that will suit your weather, zone, soil conditions and what grows good where you live. Try them-you'll like it.
Reply:Humming bird vine, aka: trumpet vine might be a good choice for you. they come in pink or orange, grow quickly, and attract butterflies and humming birds.

This stuff thrives anywhere from deep shade to full sun. The only draw back is that it can become somewhat invasive if not kept in check.
